You may have all the qualifications, skills and experience that the interviewer is looking for, but you can still be turned down because other candidates know more about how to present themselves in an interview. So here are a few tips created by Standard Life on how to prepare in advance to make your interview successful.
Be aware of your interests, skills and experience and how they can relate to the job you are applying for. Assess your strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, interests and goals before attending the interview.
Learn about the Company/Job
Most companies now have their own websites that will give you up-to-date information. Alternatively, call the company and ask for company information and a job profile. Having done this research, make sure you let the interviewer be aware of this fact – it will show you are very keen and enthusiastic.
Prepare your interview outfit
Show up at the interview looking neat, clean and tidy, and like you are ready to work. Why? You want to make sure you will look like you will fit in with the rest of the employees. If you are not sure what to wear then call the company and ask for some information about the dress code.
Think about questions you want to ask
At the end of the interview you may get the chance to ask questions. Have a think about the questions that you may want to ask at the interview. This is your opportunity to show that you are interested in the organisation and at the same time demonstrate that you have a strong interest in the position you are applying for.
Good luck with your preparation!
