This week’s UN summit on climate change is an opportunity for us all to think about how we can do our bit to look after our planet.
Many wealthier countries have already promised emissions cuts and there have also been pledges of finance and technological help for poorer nations to meet long term targets.
In the world’s media, 56 newspapers in 45 countries published the same editorial, warning that climate change will “ravage our planet” unless action is agreed at the summit.

Could you turn your interest into a career?
If you’re interested in what you’ve been reading and watching as the summit progresses, you could be similar to Becky Clarke who managed to turn her passion for the environment change into a career.
Becky, Planning Liaison Officer at the Environment Agency, said: “At school I think quite a few people thought I was an eco warrior, with my constant nagging on recycling, caring about things such as climate change, the greenhouse effect and obviously the ozone layer. At uni I originally studied teaching but I changed to environmental sciences because I just really wanted to follow my passion.”
There are a wealth of different routes that you could pursue in this area, from a Pollution, Prevention & Control Officer, to a Hydrologist or even a Civil Engineer.
The climate change summit concludes on 18 December 2009 but you’ve got a little longer to think about your environmental career ideas!
