Fire and rescue services
The Fire & Rescue Service is more than just putting fires out, they respond to all kinds of emergencies. From rescuing someone from a flood or responding to a terrorist attack, to cutting passengers out of cars and dealing with the aftermath of a traffic accident. The skills you need to be a firefighter are good communications; ability to follow instructions; composure; patience and understanding; and attention to detail. Recruitment is open to all people who are 18 or older. You’ll also have to take a series of National Firefighter Ability tests to make sure you’re suitable, as well as a Personal Qualities and Attributes test.
