The businesses in this sector are traditionally segmented into the following three sub-sectors: domestic – serving the public directly through retail outlets; office – desks, seating, tables and other items for the office environment; and contract – furniture and furnishing for public areas such as airports and restaurants. The main ways to get into the industry are via an Apprenticeship, which can lead to a range of exciting specialist careers. Directly, through employers who can often look for people that want to develop a broader range of skills and perform different tasks every day. And finally, via Further or Higher Education, which can result in qualifications at degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) level.
