Glass, glazing and ceramics

As a starting point to enter this sector, consider taking part in exhibitions, shows and competitions to develop your skills, gain feedback and commercial awareness. Both ceramic and glass designers may work on a self-employed basis, for small independent studios, or for large companies on commercially successful designs for mass production. Ceramics designers create designs for a range of pottery objects that can include ceramic sculpture, domestic and commercial tableware, giftware, garden ceramics, jewellery and tiles. A glass blower or designer is responsible for designing, producing, decorating and finishing pieces of glass ranging from giftware, tableware, exhibition pieces, stained glass windows, mirrors, vehicle and architectural glass products.
