0.00.00 I’m Emma N and I work at Northend Creative Print. I’m in the client service department. I’m the Client Service Support Advisor. I work with one Account Manager who has various different accounts and he’s out of the office quite a lot. So it’s just being support in the office. I’m office based whilst they’re out selling or whatever.

0.00.30 And then equally using the departments within the company to progress the work forward. I enjoyed school. I went for the creative option. I did A levels, went up to A levels and did art and fashion and fabrics. I seemed to enjoy those subjects rather than the sciences. I then went on to do a foundation course in art and design in Sheffield which gave me the opportunity to decide which area of design or illustration or whatever I wanted to do.

0.01.00 I went for the graphic design option and then managed to get into Chelsea School of Arts. It was a fantastic experience. I had a really good time in London. I, you know, played hard as well worked hard. It was a big adjustment because, you know, I have very strong family base, all in Sheffield. I didn’t know anybody in London at all, so I had to meet, you know, new people, set up on my own, which I did. I could have gone more locally.

0.01.30 I could have stayed in Sheffield but I think the whole going away, becoming independent really helped me. My family were very, very supportive, very encouraging. They were very much, you know, whatever I wanted to do they would support me, particularly my father who had a lot of contacts in Sheffield as a businessman, introduced me to people, you know, just tried to open doors for me and to give me experience dealing with businesses and seeing the real world, sort of quite at an early age.

0.02.00 I started doing freelance work making greeting cards as well for people in London and I realised it was better if I came back to Sheffield, set up my own business, which I did and made a studio at home and then I had agents working for me, selling my cards, UK and again I had successes with that because I got them into Harrods and Harvey Nicholls and Royalty bought them. And it was great.

0.02.30 It was, but I was self-employed, they were handmade cards and I then got married, I had a husband who was away a lot and I realised that I needed more stability so then I worked for a design agency. I’ve worked here at Northend for officially ten years but I’ve actually had two breaks because I’ve had two children and I think the whole working and being a mother is difficult, but it can be done and with a supportive company, employees, you can do it, and supportive family. When I’m not working I obviously spend time with the family.

0.03.00 We’re very fortunate that all our family live in Sheffield. My sister does with her family so we do a lot of family things together. My husband’s been very inspirational mainly because he decided to do his private pilot’s license. He’s had to work hard to do that, absolutely totally focused on that, a lot of financial commitment. But I really admire him for almost, you know, living the dream. He’s decided that that’s what he wants to do so he’s changed his career path and he’s finally doing exactly what he wants to do.

0.03.30 Where do I see myself in five years time? Hopefully still here, maybe more in a full-time role rather than part-time. I am working alongside somebody at the moment who does book publication here and I’m beginning to learn his job which is really interesting and, you know, I’d love to be more involved in that. So possibly that side of the company, if there’s the opportunity to do so, but I’m, you know, I’m more than happy in the position that I’m in at the moment.

Tasks
  • Receives enquiries from potential and existing clients, discusses requirements, and recommends products or services
  • Discusses pricing processes with clients, agrees payment arrangements and handles customer accounts
  • Makes reservations, books tickets, organises insurance policies on behalf of customers
  • Follows up clients to ensure their satisfaction with a product or service and to gain renewal of customer service agreements
  • Addresses customer complaints and problems
  • Informs customers of special promotions and new product launches.
