00:00:04 My name is Luc Riera, and I'm an account manager in the London region for Tarmac Limited. We're the face for Tarmac, you know, it's our job to go and speak to customers with a view of selling building material to them albeit asphalt, concrete or aggregates. We interface with the customer, we ensure that they get what they need in terms of materials and that their accounts run smoothly and that we try and build relations with these players in the industry.
00:00:42 I loved school, yeah. I really enjoyed school. I had a very happy school time, really. I enjoyed sports a lot. I'm still quite sporty and I was pretty much in most teams, you know, football, swimming, athletics and basketball, believe it or not even though I'm 5'5", 5'6". And I left with a pretty average academic background and then I went on to further education to get A levels, HND and then I did a one year top up for business studies.
00:01:18 But on the whole I had a very, very happy education, really, throughout. In the early, when I was much younger, sort of 12-13, I went to an RAF selection weekend at Biggin Hill. I guess a lot of boys would want to do that at that age and my father worked in the airlines and so hence I had a natural kind of interest in it already and I pursued it but my eyes weren't good enough at the time and that was partly what stopped me in my tracks.
00:01:49 Although, you know, allegedly now, you know, they say the criteria for eyes are much more lenient now but at the time, you know, it put a stop on it for me and I just, you know, that's where that ended, really. But it hasn't, you know, I'm quite a motivated person, that's kind of my makeup and it hasn't stopped me going forward and achieving what I wanted to achieve.
00:02:14 I came to work for Tarmac in a bit of a roundabout way in as much as I originally worked for Bosch Telecom so I was working in Telecom sales and, yeah, a long story short I went travelling for a year and a half and, yeah, I thought I would go with a view of, you know, my ultimate destination was Australia and I wanted to go with an open mind and see if something might happen in Australia with, just, I went with an open mind, really, and after a year or so I decided it wasn't for me.
00:02:50 Came back, I went back into my Telecoms role with this dealership and did that for about four or five months by which time I realised I really wanted to do a change of industry and, yeah, I saw there was an opening at Tarmac and I thought I would experiment with the construction trade, and, you know, selling building materials and I've been here for five years and I've very much, it's kept me stimulated, if you like. I think as long as I feel I'm growing and I'm learning then I'm happy doing this.
00:03:29 I would like to be remembered as someone who achieved goals in a fun manner with good energy and that was good humoured and a good team player and they're all the things that I look for in my colleagues and generally find so I would say that's how I would like to be remembered. ENDS

Luc Riera is an Account Manager for Tarmac. He is "the face of Tarmac." He deals with the company's customers, selling building materials and making sure their accounts run smoothly. He originally wanted to join the RAF but poor eyesight stopped that.
