Hi, my name’s Naroop, I’m one half of Amit and Naroop Photography and I’m a photographer. I think our favourite shoot erm, definitely has to be Ricky Gervais. He was amazing, so chilled out and literally anything we said to him he’d do so we were like “ok Ricky do this one where you kind of kick in the air and shout shout at the camera” and he did it you know and he really loved the energy and it ended up being the last shot was Amit having Ricky lying on a sofa and actually stood on top of him shooting like this, so literally it was amazing, I was watching it all thinking it’s absolutely crazy because Ricky’s a Hollywood star and you know we’ve got this amazing timing?? of the shoot and it’s something I’ll never forget. And the photos I think came out amazing I was really really happy with them. For half an hour I think we did a good job with that. Definitely.

When I was five or six I knew I wanted to do something where people would know who I am. I’ve always wanted to just have my name to mean something so I wasn’t too sure but I knew I definitely didn’t want to be in an office or you know, just be somebody who hasn’t really doesn’t really effect a lot of people. I think when I was a student I had a very erm low concentration span that I couldn’t focus on stuff. Erm, I, the way I am in my life is I like very few things but what those things that I like, I love them, I give my everything to them so with work I’m very good at one thing but not so good at other things so school was the same thing you know I was always very average at school just because I didn’t really enjoy academia that much you know, I was, without knowing it I was creative inside but I didn’t have the avenue, the vehicle to express that so you know I kind of dwindled along my brother was amazing at school I was always a little bit behind him not quite knowing what to do, he was going to do medicine you know I thought ok I’ll work with my father in his business cos you know, not that was the easy option but he was doing something he loved I thought ok if he’s doing what he loves I’m I’ll probably love that as well so I ended up you know working with him for a little while but that’s what I was planning to do when I was at school. And that’s what kind of student I was, I was never very good at everything I was always very average but erm, turned out alright, I guess,  ha ha.

We’ve got a talent and a lot of people have talents but talent alone won’t aloow you to achieve your dreams. You have to build up you skill and skills only build up through hours and hours of perfecting your craft and that’s what we’ve done, we’ve put hours and hours in so we we’ve worked harder than anybody else we knew and we’d day in day out we’d shoot we’d shoot we’d shoot we’d keep on doing it. The first jobs that we actually really really did we had to even hustle just to kind of get that job even though it’s for two hundred pounds we really had to sell ourselves for it and for us at that time it was amazing that somebody’s actually gonna pay us to do something that we loved. Because from then it went from being just an idea to actually being something that that is coming  you know to existence in real life. You know and even just getting that two hundred pounds is amazing and for us we never treated it like it was worth two hundred pounds, we treated it like it was worth two hundred thousand pounds, it was like, we put our all into just making sure the images are amazing to this day it’s the same thing it’s our pride for our names and for who we are that keeps us going. You know, those in the first initial jobs I think just pushed us and made us you know what someone does want to use us and pay us because a lot of people do it just for free.

What we want to create is like a legacy. L  ike my whole think of life is that I want to represent an idea that you can actually achieve anything you want in your life. Like, I think that’s very powerful.  Like, if you can, if you can, if people can think Amit and Naroop came from being these two guys that grew up in west London to having achieved all these things that’s something you can never take away from you. Where I was listening to Bob Marley the other day and I said to my friends. Thirty years on since he’s passed away yet people are still listening to his music – that’s a legacy, he represents something which no one can take away and that’s what motivates me in my life really is to to encourage people to hopefully allow someone else to think do you know what, I wanna be a singer or I wanna be a pilot or whatever they wanna be just go and do it. I mean what’s the worst that’s gonna happen, you know?
