Which foreign languages can boost your job prospects?
Survey reveals language skills most in demand.
European languages top the UK’s top ten most wanted languages, according to a recent study of over one million live job adverts on job search engine Adzuna.
German takes the top spot as the language most in demand by employers, with 8,154 vacancies across the country. French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch are next, with Polish coming in at number seven. Russian, Chinese and Arabic make up the rest of the top ten.
The biggest recruiters of linguists were in sales (8.2%), teaching (8.1%) and hospitality and catering (7.9%), together offering almost a quarter of the UK’s language jobs. Roles in accounting and finance, and customer services rounded out the top five.
So if you’re thinking of picking up a language, don’t forget to consider less competitive options. Lots of opportunities exist out there for your future career!
