What is a sports engineer?
21st July 2015
Football boot technology expert Sam Fraser explains.
Sam wanted to work in sport since he was 10, when he started following his local rugby team, Saracens. He knew he was never going to be a top-level athlete but engineering has led him to a career in sports equipment performance.
He’s now a sports engineer at Loughborough University, on a mission to make a better football boot, “When you hit a ball with a boot on at 60-70 mph, small differences could make a massive effect,” he explains. “I like fixing things, I like making things and if we can just make that equipment better, we can improve the sport.”
