Deidre B

00:00:02 My name is Deidre B I’m an Accounts Assistant and I work for NVT.

00:00:07 Mainly the day to day duties are obviously processing purchase ledgers, sales ledgers, all that kind of, invoicing, making sure that customers are getting their bills, making sure that the suppliers are being paid, and just general spread sheets, usual IT but in the background.

00:00:25 It is a hard job, it’s a busy job, I really enjoy it though, it’s quite rewarding especially if you get to your month end and you get your bank squared you get your sales squared, you know you get a high from it, it’s good.

00:00:39 When I started in NVT I was in logistics doing the buying for like customers with sales, software servers and whatever else to them, I started in there through my sister, she had worked in the call centre beforehand so she’d said, this job’s come up, how d’you fancy trying so I applied for the job and I got it, so, I was in logistics for four years.

00:01:02 I felt as if I wasn’t getting enough from it so the job come up in accounts, applied for it, and got the job. And then one of the conditions of taking the job as Steven said, take it you have to go to college, do your HNC, we’ll send you to night school, so I took the decision, took the job and did two years at night school.

00:01:24 I think for a lot of years I was just kind of footing along you know I had a job, working, most days, usually could be a seven day week I was working just so I had money in the bank to go shopping, to go out with my friends, you know as long as I had money for the weekend that’s, that was my main objective,

00:01:41 Didn’t feel as if I needed a career, but as I’ve got older I’ve felt no, I need a bit more other than just turning up to work doing my job and going home. I needed a bit of a challenge, so.

00:01:52 When I left school I went to college was doing office administration this is what I thought I wanted to do but it was just it wasn’t for me at all. And I think had I had the right encouragement and someone like Steven early on pushing me, I probably would be further along than I am now.

00:02:10 Well I started off part time job while I was at school and while I was at college, it was just keeping me going and then when I left college I got offered full time hours so just, it was easy just to take the hours, get the money in the bank.

00:02:26 Enjoyed doing secretarial studies at school, tried to go computer end but they wouldn’t let me do computers and secretarial at school they said it was too similar, so. I probably would have been in a different career path had I chosen that.

00:02:40 I felt as if, they could be more encouraging I think when you’re young it’s hard to decide what kind of career you want, what you’re going to do with your life unless you’ve got somebody there saying, giving you ideas, oh you’re good at this, or you’re good at that, why don’t you try it. I didn’t, I felt as if I didn’t have that at school.

00:02:57 College, I didn’t really, it didn’t interest me at all, I just kind of floated along that year as well, I was a bit of a dreamer when I was younger, I managed to see through a year at college and then I quit and went full time in catering, just to college was.

00:03:20 Just now I’m quite happy, with NVT and working in accounts, if I get more qualifications behind me then it’s always good to have it. At the moment I’m fine, I’m quite happy where I am.

00:03:32 I am very happy actually it sounds quite geeky you know everybody says oh they hate their job but, it’s a good company to work for and I’m enjoying my work. I enjoy coming to work every day which is something I never thought I would ever experience but I do enjoy it.

00:03:48 END
